Why I HATE music as a business...

Many of you reading this blog are from and around the area of Detroit. Congrats. You are apart of what is considered to outsiders a scum of a city; where the amount of roaches and rats are as plentiful as the robberies and arsons (I hyperbolize of course). I'm willing to guess that many of you are also music lovers/junkies as well, (two for two right?). Well if you only concur to the latter of the two statements again, congrats, because Detroit seems to be one of the only "major" cities that doesn't get attention from independent and mid-level artists anymore. Now don't get me wrong, when I say mid-level artists I don't mean that in terms of quality. I intend to convey the artist that has less of a following/ isn't on MTV BET VH1 or Fuse (not that being on any of these channels should hold any type of standard). The reason is music has become a business. Fair enough. Why shouldn't people make money off of their personal works and creations? The trouble is I never get to see them live. Yeah I know I'm selfish, because it seems artists like Toro y Moi, Lil B, Flying Lotus (he was here twice, once at the majestic, once at DEMF). There are no market for those artists here.

Thats why they don't play. I say that's a bit of bullshit. There are ways to work around that without having to necessarily give up all money.  Find an artist of the same general musical genre and open for them. You get a cut and the exposure is increased in that area. If an artist is worried about losing a bit of money, they're in the wrong game. I believe that any and every artist should be looking for the most fans, to expose their art to as many people as possible. Long term money comes in as that happens. Thats how social networking has been employed.
The new generation of musical outlet is primarily focused on viral spreads, do it yourself projects and appreciation all via the internet. Mix-tape's are being distributed through sites such as Mediafire and Zshare and god knows if you have to buy an album digitally nowadays (I-tunes, Zune, Amazon, etc.), most people are going to look for the torrent first.

Fuck this, in the end I just disprove my point because sites like soundcloud can tell you where you're getting the most listeners and views. SO if you find that the most views and downloads are coming from L.A., you go to L.A. to play a show to get the most money.

But still, I feel like every fan counts. They make the artist as much as an artist does. Shouldn't those fans get consideration?

Nah money comes first.....

Fuck America.

Odd Future on Jimmy?!

In case you haven't kept up with OFWGKA, two of the members (Frontman Tyler the Creator and member Hodgy Beats) were on Late night with Jimmy Fallen "The Roots"...

If you aren't on their suicidal rampage of a train, you're about to get ran over by that same train you tried to avoid. They're blowing up left and right, booking shows all the way from their homeland of California to the distant east of New York.

Their lyrics consist of teenage angst and an ode to something similar to The Slim Shady LP. They incorporate some story telling techniques as well as some plain vulgar and horrifying things said which makes you question how fucked up these guys really are- especially if you saw the video EARL, which I thought was as damn near to a snuff video as someone could get.

But thinking about it, this is what they want- a shock value. Something that gets you to pay attention to their lyrical debauchery. They're smart and straight forward. Laughing about death, rape, murder and zoophilia isn't necessarily clean or clever humor, but dead baby jokes have been thrown around for decades.

OFWGKA is much more than that though. Give em a chance and don't rule em out, or you may be the last one on the train when there are no more seats.

Ok, I'm back

The reinstatement of this blog is the ugly lovechild of boring classes and the twisted imagination of the one and only Johnny PatrĂ³n. There has been a lot happening over these last couple of months if you didn't know/didn't exist and can suddenly read, you infant you. Expect some analysis of some of the albums I have (and haven't) been listening to, dope clothing (the kind I can't afford) pictures, videos, whatever.

You should already know that all I'm dedicated to must be COLD in one way or another, yeah and I'm bringing that shit back,
Real banana's.

Keep checkin out my blog, its updated daily. Promise to throw at least one new thing up errrday for.....a long time.

*Licks Middle Finger and throws it up*

Its sorta like they went mickey factz on this track mixed with Outkasts B.O.B, cuz thefastrappinthatgoeslikethiswithallthewordsmergedtogethermaythrowyouoff

Its a sort of 2-4 snare track with a downtempo verse. Very nice actually, because when you catch the beat finally, its like, "This is really nice John, thank you so much for showing me this."

RIP ODB

Tempest (Janne Suni (or in america Johnny Sooney) ) - Acidjazzed Evening

A while ago,

I came across this 16-bit song.

Supposidly the artist sued producer "Timbaland" over usage of the song in one of his own.

"Timbaland" didn't give credit to Janne for the usage of his song.

It's been settled since then, but there has been no mention of the outcome.

Still,

To me its like Daft Punk X Nintendo. One of my influences.

C.O.L.D.

Jay Z X Jay Dee

Hard to imagine?

Not with this song.

Makes you think- What if Jay Dee produced The Blueprint?

Very Nice Track

Status of Act II

For those who have been waiting for Act II for the longest of times,

According to 2dopeboyz, and this radio interview,

Wanna know why Act II hasn’t dropped? Blame Gnozhir for turning in his verses all kinds of late. Jay and Just popped up on Green Lantern’s Invasion Radio to talk about it. The thing was ready by New Year’s as promised, but little homie didn’t deliver his goods on time. They then discuss the deal they have with Decon and Jay’s audio-visual project with them (aka the “Dear Moleskine” trailer). -2dopeboyz

Check this Link to hear the interview.

Btw, I feel its a burden to set dates,
One cannot rush greatness and the potential of greatness. Jussayin

Expect it soon.
